Sam Patch thrived on danger and the public adoration that came with tempting fate.

He was also fond of saying, “Some things can be done as well as others,” a quote that falls flat these days.  But it must have had some deeper meaning in the early 1800s, as it often appeared on the posters announcing another Sam Patch event.

Each advertisement guaranteeing another thrilling leap higher and more spectacular – and more dangerous than the one before.

Then came the day he fell to his death.  It’s not known whether Sam jumped, slipped, or tripped, but some who were there that day say he appeared to stumble as he stepped onto the unique custom-built platform high above the Genesee River.

Stories from History’s Dust Bin is a 3-volume set of historical short stories. These are the nuggets of gold that had fallen by the wayside… the little known and unusual. Many of these gems were destined to be forever lost until they were collected, dusted off and brought back to life by author Wayne Winterton.

Each podcast episode features one of over 450 short stories from either Winterton’s Award-Winning Stories from Dust Bin series* or the companion volume, From Ace to Zamboni: 101 More Dust Bin Stories, as narrated by either the author or his son, William, or daughter, Jana.
