Two decisions Sam Sidney made – opening herself to possibility and listening to a creative nudge – shifted her life in unexpected and delightful ways.
When a pandemic art project with her kids went viral, Sam switched from a career as an illustrator to a connoisseur of a felt. And the world absolutely loves her for it.
When I first heard Sam Sidney's story, I instantly related to it. As the pandemic started, I, too, needed something to bring me stability and a bit of joy. So, I turned to what I knew best – creativity. My result is this podcast. Sam's result is a business that brings joy to people around the world (including celebrities like Bravo's Andy Cohen.)
In this episode, Sam shares the journey she's been on since her business hit the viral internet waves, and how she has kept herself anchored during a time when it would be easy to lose sight of her own joy and creative expression.
The book shared in this episode: "Big Magic" by Elizabeth Gilbert

GET TO KNOW SAM
Sam Sidney is originally from New York, and moved to Charleston in 2007. She studied Studio Art at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, and earned a Masters in Art Education from NYU. For many years she was an illustrator, but it wasn’t until the quarantine that she started working with felt. She promised herself she would do an art project with her kids each day. One day, she pulled out a small box of felt and made some collages. She made a self portrait out of felt, posted it online, and the rest is history! She free hand cuts felt pieces to create protists of celebrities, pets, food and drinks. When she is not making things out of felt, you can find her at the beach with her 4 kids and 2 dogs.
