Paul leaves the Colossian church with three ways in which they can live the pre-eminence of Jesus Christ. Prayer, walking in wisdom and speech seasoned with grace.

Paul emphasizes the reality of Jesus' supremacy over the "vain deceit" hawked by the enemies of God and how in Jesus we are complete and lack nothing.

Paul exhorts the Colossians to be rooted and built upon Jesus, in the same faith that they received him in.

Paul uses his own hardships associated with his identification and service to Jesus as an encouragement to the Colossian church. We find encouragement as believers to follow this example in hope.

Paul wraps this section up with a discussion of Jesus' preeminence proper.
