Surf Report for San Diego California

San Diego, CA Surf Report for 02-16-2025

Listen Later

Surf's up, wave riders! We've got some serious coastal action brewing along Southern California's shores today.

Orange County and San Diego are serving up distinctly different oceanic vibes. Newport Beach is looking at a moderate rip current risk with surf heights dancing between 2 to 4 feet, while San Diego's coastline is cranking it up to a high rip current warning with waves potentially reaching 3 to 6 feet. Surfers take note: these aren't your lazy summer swells.

Water temperatures are holding steady in the chilly 56 to 58 degree range - wetsuit weather for sure. The west swell is rolling in from various angles today - around 270 to 280 degrees - which means some clean, directional wave action for the skilled riders.

Tide charts are showing multiple peaks and valleys throughout the day. Newport Beach will see its first low tide at a modest 1.3 feet early morning, climbing to a respectable 4.1 feet by late morning. La Jolla follows a similar rhythm with low tides dipping to around 1.1 feet and high tides reaching 4.0 feet.

By Monday, both regions mellow out significantly. Rip current risks drop to low, and surf heights shrink to a more manageable 1 to 3 feet. The west swell will continue but with less intensity.

Bottom line: Today's for experienced wave hunters. Tomorrow's for everyone else. Stay safe, watch those currents, and enjoy the ocean's mood swings.

Catch you on the waves!
