San Diego, CA Surf Report for 03-03-2025

Listen Later

Surf's up, wave riders! We've got a serious swell brewing along Southern California's coastline that's gonna test even the most seasoned surfers.

Orange County and San Diego are under a High Surf Advisory until 10 PM tonight, with monster waves that'll make your adrenaline pump. We're talking 4 to 7 feet in Orange County - with some sets pushing 8 feet - and an absolutely epic 5 to 8 feet in San Diego, with potential sets reaching a jaw-dropping 10 feet!

Rip current risk is cranked up to HIGH, so listen up: these aren't your gentle summer waves. Waters are chilly at 56 to 61 degrees, and the swell is rolling in from the west-northwest - 270 degrees for Orange County and 290 degrees for San Diego. Translation: powerful, directional waves that demand respect.

Newport Beach and La Jolla are experiencing dramatic tide shifts today. Multiple high and low tides will create complex water dynamics, so know your local conditions before paddling out.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, things mellow slightly. Orange County sees surf dropping to 2 to 4 feet with moderate rip current risk, while San Diego maintains a high-risk scenario with 3 to 5 foot waves. Swell direction shifts slightly, now coming from 260 and 280 degrees respectively.

Bottom line: if you're not an experienced surfer, today is NOT your day. Professionals only need apply. Stay safe, check local conditions, and respect the ocean's power.

Catch you on the waves - if you dare!
