Surfers and beach lovers listen up! The coastal waves are about to get seriously interesting.
Today might seem like a mellow day with modest 2 to 4 foot surf and a low rip current risk along Orange County and San Diego coastlines. Water temperatures are sitting comfortably between 57 and 60 degrees - wetsuit weather for sure.
But hold onto your boards because Friday is bringing the storm! We're looking at a dramatic surf upgrade with wave heights cranking up to 3-5 feet in Orange County and a solid 4-6 feet in San Diego. Some sets are even expected to reach a thunderous 7-8 feet.
The real headline is the rip current risk. We're going from a calm low risk today to a high risk tomorrow. Translation: these waves mean business. Lifeguards are warning swimmers and surfers to exercise extreme caution.
Swell directions are mixing it up too. Today we're seeing south swells around 190-210 degrees blended with west swells near 260-270 degrees. By Friday, the west swell is dominating from 270-280 degrees.
Tide schedule is looking active with multiple low and high tide cycles. Newport Beach and La Jolla will see tide ranges between -0.7 and 5.5 feet throughout the day.
Bottom line: Tomorrow promises epic but potentially dangerous surf conditions. Check local conditions, respect the ocean, and stay safe out there wave riders!
