Surf's up, wave riders! We've got a gnarly forecast coming in hot for Southern California's coastal zones.
Orange County and San Diego are looking at some serious wave action today. If you're planning to hit the water, listen up because these conditions are no joke.
Orange County beaches are expecting surf heights between 3 to 5 feet with sets pushing up to 6 feet. The water's sitting at a chilly 54 to 60 degrees, so you'll want that wetsuit. Newport Beach tides are dancing between a low of negative 0.4 feet and a high of 2.9 feet, with swells rolling in from 280 degrees.
San Diego's coastal areas are even more intense. We're talking 4 to 7 foot waves with sets potentially climbing to 9 feet. There's a High Surf Advisory in effect until noon today. Water temperatures are slightly warmer at 57 to 60 degrees, but don't be fooled - these waves mean business.
Rip current risk is HIGH for both regions. Translation: these are not conditions for casual swimmers or inexperienced surfers. Life-threatening currents are likely, so if you're not confident in your skills, stay on the beach and enjoy the view.
Tomorrow looks slightly mellower. Orange County will see surf dropping to 2 to 4 feet with a moderate rip current risk. San Diego maintains a high rip current risk with 3 to 5 foot waves.
For all you wave warriors out there: respect the ocean, know your limits, and stay safe. Catch you on the flip side!
