San Diego, CA Surf Report for 05-03-2025

Listen Later

Surf's up, wave riders! Buckle up for a wild weekend along Southern California's coastline.

Newport and San Diego beaches are serving up some seriously spicy conditions. We're talking high rip current risks that'll keep even the most seasoned surfers on their toes. Today's surf is rolling in at a solid 3 to 5 feet with mixed swells coming from multiple directions - think 220 and 190 degrees for Newport, while San Diego's getting a 270 and 220 degree combo.

But hold onto your boards, because Sunday is where things get really interesting! San Diego is under a High Surf Advisory with waves cranking up to 5 to 8 feet - and get this - potentially hitting 9-foot local sets. Newport's looking at a hefty 4 to 6-foot swell with both regions experiencing a dominant west swell around 260-270 degrees.

Water temperatures are sitting comfortably between 59 and 63 degrees - not arctic, but definitely wetsuit weather. Tide-wise, expect some dramatic vertical movement. Newport and La Jolla will see highs around 4.3-4.7 feet and lows dipping close to zero - perfect for those who love dramatic coastal landscapes.

The biggest warning? Rip currents are HIGH. These aren't your average wave conditions. Ocean experts are basically screaming "BE CAREFUL" without actually screaming. Experienced swimmers and surfers only - newbies should sit this one out.

No thunderstorm threats mean clean, powerful waves - just pure oceanic energy waiting to be respected. Stay safe, stay smart, and may the surf be with you!
