Surf Report for San Diego California

San Diego, CA Surf Report for 05-04-2025

Listen Later

Surf's up, wave riders! We've got a serious swell brewing along Southern California's coastline that demands your full attention. Today's ocean is packing some serious punch with massive waves ranging from 4 to 8 feet - and in some San Diego spots potentially hitting 9 feet!

Calling all surfers and beach lovers: the rip current risk is HIGH across both Orange and San Diego County coastal zones. This means the ocean is seriously spicy and not for the faint of heart. If you're not an experienced ocean athlete, today is definitely a spectator sport.

Water temperatures are hovering between a chilly 58 to 63 degrees, so grab that wetsuit. For Newport Beach, expect dramatic tide shifts with morning and evening high tides around 4 feet and midday lows touching zero. La Jolla's tidal pattern mirrors a similar dance.

The swell is coming in from multiple directions - west at 270 degrees and secondary swells from 200 and 240 degrees. Translation: complex, powerful wave patterns that will challenge even seasoned surfers.

A High Surf Advisory is in effect for San Diego County from early Sunday morning until late evening. The message is clear: respect the ocean's power today. This isn't a day for casual swimming or inexperienced water activities.

Thunderstorms? Not in the forecast. But Mother Nature's wave machine is definitely turned up to eleven. Stay safe, stay smart, and maybe enjoy the view from the beach today.
