San Diego, CA Surf Report for 05-25-2025

Listen Later

Surf's up, wave riders and beach enthusiasts! We're tracking some serious ocean action along Southern California's coastline this weekend.

Hold onto your boards because the rip currents are no joke right now. We're looking at a high-risk situation in both Orange County and San Diego County waters that demands serious respect. These aren't your average waves - we're talking 3 to 6 foot swells with potential sets pushing up to 7 feet near Orange County.

The ocean's serving up a mixed swell cocktail with south and west angles hitting the coast. Orange County will see south swells rolling in around 190 degrees, while San Diego's getting a slightly different flavor at 210 degrees, complemented by west swells around 260 to 270 degrees.

Water temperatures are hovering between a cool 62 and 68 degrees - definitely wetsuit territory for most surfers. Tidal movements are dramatic, with extreme low tides dipping down to negative 1.5 feet and high tides climbing to a robust 6.8 feet.

Thunderstorm potential? Zero. But Mother Nature's making up for that with some serious rip current energy. Experienced surfers might find some epic conditions, but newbies should absolutely sit this one out.

Newport Beach and La Jolla are ground zero for these challenging maritime conditions. Multiple tide shifts throughout the day mean constantly changing wave dynamics.

Bottom line: This weekend demands serious ocean respect. Stay alert, check conditions constantly, and when in doubt - don't go out.

Catch you on the safer side of the break!
