Surf's up, wave riders! Let's break down the weekend coastal conditions from San Diego to Orange County.
Newport Beach and the OC coastline are serving up a moderate rip current risk with waves dancing between 2 to 4 feet. Water temps are sitting pretty at a crisp 63 to 67 degrees - wetsuit optional but recommended. Tide charts are showing some serious water movement with four distinct tide shifts today and tomorrow. Morning lows are barely kissing zero and peaks will reach around 5.4 to 5.6 feet.
Swell reports are looking juicy with mixed west and south swells. Today's west swell is cruising in at 260 degrees while the south swell rolls through at 190 degrees. Sunday will see a slight directional shift with the west swell moving to 270 degrees.
Heading north to San Diego County, conditions are a bit mellower. Rip current risk is low with surf heights hovering between 2 to 3 feet. Water temps are slightly cooler ranging from 59 to 64 degrees. La Jolla's tide chart mirrors Newport's rhythm with similar low and high tide patterns.
The swell direction in San Diego will feature west swells from 280 to 290 degrees and south swells around 210 degrees. No thunderstorm threats are on the radar for either region.
Bottom line: Solid weekend for catching waves with manageable conditions. Stay alert, respect the ocean, and surf safe!
