Listen Later

Surf's up, wave riders! This is your weekend coastal breakdown for Southern California.

Buckle up for a dynamic surf scene this Saturday and Sunday. Orange County is looking at a spicy swell situation with waves ramping up from 2 to 4 feet this afternoon and climbing to a robust 3 to 6 feet by evening. The rip current risk is dialing up from moderate today to high on Sunday - so keep those eyes peeled and safety skills sharp.

Mixed swells are dancing through our waters - a sultry south swell rolling in at 190 degrees blending with a west swell cruising at 270 degrees. Water temps are sitting pretty between 62 and 65 degrees - perfect for a wetsuit and some serious wave hunting.

Over in San Diego County, the scene looks slightly mellower but still exciting. Expect consistent 2 to 4 foot waves with local sets pushing to 5 feet on North County beaches. The rip current risk remains moderate throughout the weekend, so respect the ocean's mood.

Tidal choreography is in full swing with some fascinating low and high tide moments. Newport Beach will see a low tide of -0.6 feet early morning, climbing to a high of 5.5 feet by late night. La Jolla follows a similar rhythmic pattern.

Pro tip: While thunderstorms aren't in the forecast, those rip currents are no joke. Stay alert, know your limits, and surf smart. Weekend warriors - this is your coastal call to adventure!

Catch you on the waves.
