Listen Later

Surf's up, wave riders! Hold onto your boards because Northern and Central California are serving up some serious swell action this weekend.

Friday's looking like an epic big wave day with west-facing beaches cranking out monster 15 to 20-foot waves - that's serious power for the hardcore surfers! Sonoma and Marin County coastal areas are under a High Surf Advisory until 11 AM, so experienced surfers only need to apply.

San Francisco and San Mateo coastal zones are matching the intensity with west-facing waves hitting 15 to 19 feet, and south-facing beaches rolling in at 8 to 12 feet. Water temperature's hovering around a chilly 53 degrees, so break out those thick wetsuits.

Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay are also joining the big wave party. Expect west-facing beaches to deliver 15 to 19-foot waves with south-facing beaches offering 8 to 12-foot sets. The forecast calls for partly cloudy conditions with temperatures ranging from the upper 50s to low 60s.

Wind conditions will be moderate, starting southwest and shifting northwest throughout the day at 8 to 11 miles per hour. Tides will be dynamic, with low points around morning and evening and high peaks mid-morning and late evening.

Saturday brings slightly more mellow conditions with wave heights dropping to 9 to 13 feet on northwest beaches and 6 to 9 feet on southwest beaches.

Pro tip: Check local beach conditions and heed advisories before paddling out. Stay safe and shred responsibly!
