For 40 years after her husbands death Sarah Winchester began construction of a mansion to appease the spirits she felt responsible for. Sarah's late husband, William Winchester, was the hair to the Winchester Repeating arms Corporation and after his death the "blood money" went to Sarah. She felt tremendous guilt for profiting off of other peoples deaths and sought out mediums and spiritualist to help her guide the spirits to the other side.
