Have you ever wondered about what a K-9 Search & Rescue organization does? How they train their dogs? What different jobs the dogs do? Are you interested in learning more about volunteering for a program like this where you live? Russ is currently the President of the Sarasota K-9 Search & Rescue here in Sarasota FL. He is certified by the International Association for Identification as a Certified Senior Crime Scene Analyst, a Certified Latent Print Examiner and was the first person certified in the State of Florida as a Certified Blood Stain Pattern Analyst, by EPIC as a Certified Evidence Photographer. Russ is a retired police officer, a former crime scene investigator, he was the Chief Investigator for the Palm Beach Medical Examiner. He has been a K-9 handler for 13 years and with his K-9, Bella, a human remains detection dog for 5 years. Russ has written over 30 published forensic articles.
Today we will be talking with Russ Ruslander, the President of Sarasota K-9 Search and Rescue, a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization based in beautiful Sarasota County Florida. This is a group of highly trained, highly motivated volunteers and K-9s. Founded in 1996 by Patricia and Joe Abrams, the team has earned the respect and recognition from the state of Florida and many Emergency Services, Fire Rescue and Law Enforcement agencies. They assist local, state and national first responders to find lost individuals as well as provide educational programs to make a difference in families lives. Although, we understand the emotional importance of someone needing to find their “lost pet”, SSAR is not trained for that mission
