Saturday, 25 October 2025; Saturday of Week 29 in Ordinary Time (Year C, Green) or Saturday Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Readings:
•First Reading: Romans 8:1–11.

•Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 24(23):1–6 – “Such are the men who seek your face, O Lord.”
•Gospel: Luke 13:1–9

Main Point:
God is patient and merciful, but He calls us to bear fruit through true conversion.

Homily:
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the barren fig tree. For three years it had produced no fruit, and the owner wanted to cut it down. But the gardener pleaded, “Leave it one more year; give it another chance.” This image beautifully reveals God’s heart patient, merciful, and full of hope for us.

God gives each of us time and grace to change, to bear fruit in kindness, forgiveness, and love. Yet, His patience is not permission to remain idle. The Spirit living in us, as Paul reminds us, gives us the power to grow beyond sin and selfishness.

For example, if you have someone you find hard to forgive, today might be your “one more year.” God is digging around the roots of your heart, giving you grace to let go, heal, and bear the fruit of peace.

The Way Forward:
•Take God’s patience as a chance for daily conversion, not as a reason to delay.
•Nurture your spiritual life prayer, confession, acts of charity so that your life produces good fruit.
•Be patient with others as God is patient with you.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your mercy and patience. Help me to turn my heart back to You each day and to bear the fruit of love and faithfulness in my life. Amen.
