December 11, 2022 Lesson 26: Christ the Intercessor
Have you ever wondered what Jesus is doing right now in Heaven? Maybe you've heard or read in Romans that He is "at the right hand of God, making intercession for us (Rom. 8:34)."
"But what does He have to pray about?"
Well, everything actually.
Did you know that every salvation, every answered prayer, every miracle, and every transformation of a life goes through Christ in Heaven before it is experienced by us on earth? He is our literal, present-day Advocate, working and praying at the throne of Almighty God this very moment. Andrew Murray puts it this way: "In all conversion and sanctification, in every victory over sin and the world, there is a real forth-putting of the power of Him who is mighty to save... He asks of the Father, and receives from the Father... His mediation on the throne is as real and indispensable as on the cross. Nothing takes place without His intercession: it engages all His time and powers, is His unceasing occupation at the right hand of the Father." And yet, before you think we are off the hook: "it is not a work He does without us... we participate not only in the benefits of this His work, but in the work itself. This because we are His body... [And] 'The head cannot say to the feet, I have no need of thee'... We are partakers of His life... we share with Him in His intercession too; it is not a work He does without us."
Let Him lead you there. To a life of unceasing intercession for others. Such a prayer life is the only way for us to be a channel of God's blessing to the world.

December 04, 2022 Lesson 25: The Holy Spirit and Prayer
We can't expect our prayer-life to exist as a separate entity from the rest of our lives. The way we live during every other part of our day does affect the way we pray. It affects the effectiveness and power of our prayers. When we abide in Christ, our prayers avail much. When we walk in the Spirit, our prayers fulfill God's will. The Holy Spirit is there, waiting and ready to carry us into Christ's ongoing intercessory work; but if we refuse to be holy as He is holy, and are always living contrary to that new nature, how can we expect to be able to enter into fellowship with God, to pray in Christ's name, and to experience an outpouring of the Holy Spirit into a world that so desperately needs to be reached? We must ask ourselves the honest question: "Who am I, really? What is my life, really? Am I really growing stronger spiritually day by day and week by week? Do I really have the kind of integrity and character God expects me to have? Am I a willing and worthy (or useable) vessel?" These are serious questions for serious followers of Christ. He has promised to make us useful. We just need to let Him.
"And so once again the lesson comes: What our prayer avails, depends upon what we are and what our life is. It is LIVING (emphasis mine) in the Name of Christ that is the secret of praying in the Name of Christ; LIVING (emphasis mine) in the Spirit that fits for praying in the Spirit." - Andrew Murray

What does "in Christ's name" really mean? Simply put, it is to be identified with Christ in all of our desires, all of our prayers, and all of our will so that whatever He would ask, we ask; whatever He would do, we do. Again, it's more than just the words. It's actually living in union with the One whose name we bear (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit all still working together) and trusting Him (the whole trinity) to encourage, intercede, and intervene on our behalf, respectively.
