Understanding that Christ has already made you right with Father God, is important. It's a done deal, a gift that we can receive. Attempting to earn what has been freely given is like biting the hand that feeds you. It's a contemptible act. The name of Christ, the Son, is Jesus, which means "Jehovah Saves." There's no need to wait to be better to earn God's love because that's not how it works. Repentance means agreeing with God, who declares that it is finished, and asking whether you want to receive the gift of life, his Son Jesus.
