I loved this book! I could have finished it in one sitting but I didn't want it to end! I love imperfect characters, wounded warriors and damaged heroes and heroines who work to adapt and overcome what they can and then get on with life. This book is well written with beautiful colorful dialogue and descriptions the suck you in. I could see the whole story as I read it. Wonderful!

so wonderfully written. Ms Dee has a gift for creating seamless stories. ones that can transport you to another time and place. and each one so different from the last. this was sweet, with some nail biting moments thrown in. a good, quick read.

Sweet and sizzling story all in one. I would read again as I enjoy Bonnie Dee's underdog heroes

Scarred Hearts is Bonnie Dee writing in her inimitable style, and at her absolute best.

There is nothing unusual about the setting, well if you were around the Kentucky area in 1919 I suppose you may disagree, but I wasn't so I am happy with the vision Bonnie gave me. The love story that develops from the down-trodden and down-hearted pairing in this book grabs you by the emotional short and curly's and doesn't let you go.

"You aint no shadow to your brothers in my eyes."

I loved the relationship between Shadow and Lettie, both of them in their own ways, social outcasts. Lettie through her mothers past, and her own indiscretions, and Shadow due to the fact he has returned from war a changed man, outside and in. The little things they both do for the other, brings a slow burn to the whole story, and the climax, although you can see it coming from pretty much the beginning of the book has you nervously reading on in the hope that it won't turn out the way you are thinking it will.

There was sadness in her eyes, as if she hid bruises underneath her tough skin.

I don't think it is a secret that I am a massive fan of this authors work. Even an average book by Bonnie Dee beats most others out their for originality and damn good writing. Scarred Hearts goes beyond average, it hints on excellence. I loved it - the setting, the build up, and the development of the plot and the characters, everything was perfectly paced and the end... Beautiful.

Hard to believe they'd shared the same world but never talked in all these years.
