It is an absolute pleasure to announce that we have the Manchild himself on the podcast today. In this episode we learn more about his background, his career, and his amazing documentary MANCHILD: THE SCHEA COTTON STORY. Schea Cotton is arguably the greatest High School basketball player of ALL TIME. He was LeBron before LeBron in the pre-social media era… lucky for the Internet or else the Internet would have actually exploded. His lightning-quick first step and explosive bounce added to his NBA-ready body at age 14, leaving College and NBA scouts along with the rest of the packed gyms speechless. He wasn’t nicknamed the Manchild for nothing; he was truly a man amongst boys in arguably the best era of High School basketball. Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Kobe Bryant, Baron Davis, Elton Brand, Stephen Jackson, Tyson Chandler, Ron Artest, Randy Moss.. but at the top of that list is without question Schea Cotton. His article in Sports Illustrated at age 15 says enough.
His story has possibly the most important message and life lessons for any young athlete with a dream of playing professionally, but there is no question that his story will touch anyone who takes the time to watch his documentary. The Manchild clearly was not only stronger physically but also mentally, as he was able to bounce back and help change lives after all of the unfortunate experiences throughout his life and career. It is proof that no matter how great you are, everything has to fall in place perfectly to make it to the NBA - even when you’re the best.
You will learn quickly while listening to this episode that Schea Cotton is everything as advertised. He is truly here to share his experiences and make a difference to make sure that the system doesn’t let down the next Schea Cotton. For those who thought The Manchild’s legacy was over… it truly is just getting started.
Much Love to you Schea!
