Earlier this week, one of our callers came on the openline to share the story of pupils who walked up to 14 kilometres to school in Matatiele. In June 2022, the Minister of Basic Education had addressed parliamentary questions surrounding the challenges being faced in accommodating all eligible learners on the scholar transport system. This year, over 24 000 eligible learners had not been accommodated in the scholar transport programme in the province.
