The SOTA Institute was founded on March 7, 2001 by the authors of Sisters of the Academy: Emergent Black Women Scholars in Higher Education (Stylus Publishing, 2001). Designed to address many of the issues raised in the book, the mission of SOTA is to facilitate the success of Black women in the academy by fostering research and scholarship collaboration.
