I promise, not like that. jeez
Podcast Notes:
0:00-5:18
The introduction consists of the backstory of what led to me this project idea. I talk about the class it was assigned in, but I mainly talk about my struggles of picking a college major.
5:18-11:14
The next topic is about noticing the difference between your life path and your career path. Within this, I introduce the factors that cause indecision, like parental and peer influences. This is also where I bring up my first set of research which was based on the book Designing Your Life by Bill Burnette and Dave Evans.
11:14-15:50
We talk about how education is a large factor in decision-making. From implanting the fear of being wrong into young kids to starting your life too early, our education system makes it so difficult to make decisions. We also bring up the new factors of emotional, mental, and development of humans that impact our decision-making.
15:50-18:27
Josh asked me about the book I had read, Living Beautifully by Pema Chodron, so I will explain what I took from the book in terms of my overall project.
18:27-31:11
We distinguish between large-scale decision-making and small-scale decision-making in this section. Josh has to make decisions when he plays drums or we both make decisions when we play chess. We talk about how scary it is making decisions, specifically what comes in the future after a decision. The next decision-making category we talk about in this section has to do with poker, specifically based on an interview I conducted for this project. Lastly in this section, we talk about taking inventory of a situation and controlling our reactions, and practicing decision-making as a skill.
31:11-the end
Decision-making is a scary thing. I wanted to leave the listener with a little bit of “advice” about decision-making, but of course, the goal was to inform the audience about how decision-making is bigger than it seems. It’s something that involves practice, and trial & error, and it’s not something we’re all good at. Being poor at it, like me, makes me feel lost in society, even though it’s a common thought that we see every day.
This last piece is where I state that I have a website https://dontreadmydiarymom.weebly.com/ where everything I said is documented in blog posts with sources.
With love,
Lyric.
