Schools reopen today

Thousands of learners are back at school this morning following the winter break which was brought forward as the number of covid-19 cases continued to rise. But for some, there will be no school to go back to after nearly 140 schools were set alight mostly in KwaZulu-Natal during a violent looting spree two weeks ago. Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says repairing and rebuilding the schools will cost an estimated R300 million. So, what happens now? Where will the funds come from and what happens to learners in those school in the meantime? What about the teachers? Are they well-resourced and prepared?
