Despite spending over one million dollars for a public relations campaign on the issue, Utah's lawsuit against the Federal Government over the management of unappropriated lands in the state has been denied by the United States Supreme Court. The “unappropriated” land in question is approximately 18.5 million acres, or 34% of land in Utah, controlled by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) under the Federal Land Policy Management Act (FLPMA).
