Skeet Ulrich recently shared that the original plan for Scream 5-Scream 6-Scream 7 was for Billy Loomis to slowly turn his daughter and main character, Sam Carpenter, into the Ghostface killer. While, Scream 7 reverted the storyline back to Sidney Prescott, this news puts into perspective odd choices about Scream 5 & 6 and an uncomfortable trend in modern horror films' messaging.
In this episode, Ryan is joined by Jacob from the Happy Horror Time podcast to discuss the problematic nature and execution of Sam Carpenter's development in Scream 5 & 6, her strange morality about murder, and how it speaks to the larger culture.
Then, Ryan is joined by Amar, Josh, Sarah, and Ashley to debate the concept of Sam as Ghostface in the hypothetical Scream 7 film we almost had: Would Sam have faced off against Sidney, the good final girl vs. the bad final girl? Would we have seen Sam stalking her slasher victims, or would the film have taken a "Fight Club" subjective approach?
