Screaming Origins: Why do so many movie characters share the same scream?
The iconic "Wilhelm scream" has echoed through over 400 films and TV shows since its first recording in 1951 for the movie Distant Drums. In this film, a soldier wading through a swamp is bitten by an alligator, letting out the now-famous scream. The sound effect was later named after Private Wilhelm, a character in the 1953 Western The Charge at Feather River, who emits the same scream after being shot by an arrow. It's widely believed that actor Sheb Wooley provided this distinctive yell.en.wikipedia.org
Sound designer Ben Burtt popularized the scream by incorporating it into the original Star Wars trilogy, turning it into an inside joke among filmmakers. Since then, the Wilhelm scream has become a cinematic staple, appearing in countless films, TV shows, and even video games.backstage.com
