SE 33: How Do I Decide When There’s Too Much Confusion?

Listen Later

When faced with situations where there is no obvious solution, we are often so overwhelmed by the confusion that we grab at an answer just to “make it stop.” But confusion can be fertile ground for growth. It forces us to ask questions and learn about ourselves and our circumstances, and that curiosity is a key that opens the door to possibilities we may otherwise never have seen.

This week, we talk about some ways to “clear the canvas” and listen to those parts of us that can help us arrive at the best decision.

This Week’s Listener Question:

Hey Christine & Laura, my husband just semi-retired and wants to move to Florida. This would change my job, my friends… everything. I’m so confused. On one hand, moving sounds like fun! On the other hand, moving sounds terrifying. How do I find clarity when I’m locked up in confusion?

Small Group Questions:

1.  What’s one area of your life you are feeling confusion?

2. What strategies have you found helpful to find a path forward when you’re feeling confused?

3.  How has confusion been a catalyst for growth in your life? How could it be right now?

4.  In what ways can you lean into the anxiety of dating new friends?

5.  How might staying curious unlock the door of confusion to go deeper in understanding your current options or opportunities?

Christine Quoted:

“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”
