Somehow the idea of our own mortality just doesn't sit well with us. We dread not so much an end to life, but a loss of identity forever.

Consequently we build up all manner of safeguards. There is, of course, nothing wrong with the identities we build up, providing we do not look for ourselves in them!

Infinite that we are we are trying to find fulfillment in the finite..
