Easter

The sermon explores the profound tragedy of Judas Iscariot's betrayal of Jesus, examining it through multiple lenses: the proximate cause of greed, the spiritual influence of Satan, and the sovereign plan of God. It emphasizes that while Judas was motivated by avarice and deepening frustration over Jesus' refusal to fulfill political expectations, his actions were also part of God's eternal decree, fulfilling Scripture without excusing his personal responsibility. The preacher underscores that Judas was never truly saved, being the 'son of perdition' from the beginning, and highlights the heartbreaking contrast between Jesus' love and Judas' betrayal, even as Jesus called him 'friend' in the moment of betrayal. Ultimately, the message calls believers to examine their own loyalty, warning that true discipleship involves embracing Christ's suffering and rejecting the world's values, all sustained by divine grace alone.

The sermon confronts the paralyzing power of unresolved guilt, using King Herod's torment after executing John the Baptist as a vivid illustration of how sin's consequences can haunt the conscience. It emphasizes that guilt is an objective reality before God, not merely a feeling, and that the only true remedy is the gospel's forgiveness through Christ's atonement, which is both freely offered and fully earned. The preacher distinguishes between guilt and guilt feelings, affirming that forgiveness is not dependent on emotional experience but on God's faithfulness to His promises. Drawing from personal anecdotes, including a dying woman's burden of abortion and a woman's false assurance of future grace, the message calls for genuine repentance and trust in Christ's finished work. Ultimately, the sermon proclaims that every sinner, no matter how deep their guilt, can stand guiltless before God through the righteousness of Christ, offering hope, healing, and freedom to all who come in faithRighteousness.
