Today we come to our second installment of Provoke the Pastor and the questions we'll be focusing on are primarily those of hermeneutics or Bible interpretation. We've repeatedly stated the importance of a consistent biblical hermeneutic which is able to be applied to every passage of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation. A methodology which does not need altered no matter which text of Scripture, which type or genre of Scripture, and which will always result in a consistent understanding of God's intended meaning to His church. New: I'm sure you must have answered this question before, but here goes again. In the Book of John 3:5 Jesus says, "Truly, truly, I say to you , unless one is born of water and the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." Does this say that Baptism is necessary for salvation? Old: My question is on the meaning of "permanent statute" in Leviticus 16:29 and 34. Using the hermeneutical rule of understanding the meaning of Scripture the way the audience would understand it, these verses seem to indicate that the annual day of atonement was prescribed for Israel to be perpetual. How should we understand these verses? Never: It's hard at times to tell in the Old Testament, who Jehovah or Yahweh is - Father or Son. With Lord = usually Son. With LORD = mostly Father. Does it really matter in most cases? Forever: A question arose during our discussion of Genesis as to the eternality of the Abrahamic Covenant.

The grievances—a detailed, covenantal indictment 4. The primacy of law and the rights of the people 5. Delicate balance of powers a. Spreading about the power b. Recognition of other "governments" 6. There can be a misuse of political freedom Application A. Beware the trap of "democracy" 1. Democracy => mob rule => chaos => tyranny 2. Representative government protects rights of the people 3. A republic helps to provide liberty for the whole 4. Presbyterian government is the model B. Rejoice in Christ's mediatorial rule 1. He orchestrated the Hebrew republic 2. He orchestrated the American republic 3. He did so for the good of the people 4. He did so in order that there could be peace 5. And which leads to gospel proclamation
