Sermon | Ruth 3:2-5 | Sunday Evening Service, May 10, 2026. Preacher: Rocky Stevenson In Ruth 3:2–5, Naomi begins to act on her desire to seek "rest" for Ruth—a settled security and future found through God's covenant provision. Set during the dark days of the judges, this passage takes us into the unfamiliar world of the kinsman-redeemer, the threshing floor, and the mercy woven into God's law for the vulnerable. Yet beneath these ancient customs, we discover the unchanging heart of God: a God who brings restoration out of ruin and life out of loss. This sermon explores Naomi's covenant wisdom, Ruth's obedient faith, and the character of Boaz as "a mighty man of excellence" (Ruth 2:1). We examine the Old Testament background of redemption in Leviticus 25:25–28 and Deuteronomy 25:5–10, while also tracing how these themes ultimately point forward to the greater Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Through Him, ruined sinners receive an eternal inheritance and living hope (1 Peter 1:3–5). For believers, this passage calls us to trust God's ways rather than doing what is right in our own eyes (Judges 21:25). For those exploring Christianity, it reveals the mercy and covenant faithfulness of the God of Scripture.
