  • The Ransom that makes Atonement
The sermon explores the significance of a bronze basin described in Exodus, drawing parallels to the Christian concepts of justification and sanctification. It emphasizes that while justification, or being declared righteous through Christ's sacrifice, is a pivotal moment, ongoing sanctification—a continual cleansing and dying to sin—is equally vital. Drawing on the Westminster Shorter Catechism and A.W. Pink, the message clarifies that justification is a legal status, while sanctification is a process of transformation, urging listeners to embrace repentance and rely on the Holy Spirit for ongoing renewal, ultimately pointing to Christ as both the altar of sacrifice and the source of cleansing.

  • David and the Kingdom of God: How the Message of Samuel Speak the Message of the Whol
The Old Testament presents to us many saviors before The Savior, many judges before The Judge, many deliverers before The Deliverer, and many kings before The King. Among these many forerunners of Christ, few are as significant as King David. A.W. Pink says, "David was not only the ancestor of Christ, but in some respects the most eminent personal type of Him in all the Old Testament." Father, we admire King David, a man after Your own heart, who fought Your battles, who sinned horrifically and repented earnestly, who loved Your law, and delighted in Your perfections. But we give thanks and praise for the greater David, Jesus Christ, Your Son. As we study the books of Samuel, help us to lift our eyes from King David, son of Jesse, to worship King Jesus, Son of Man and Son of God. Help us to seek His glory and His kingdom forever and ever. Bless Your church with Your presence through the Holy Spirit as we gather on this Lord's Day. Amen.

  • God's Foreordaination & Sovereignty Over the Actions of Men But Humans Are Still Held
The following is from "The Sovereignty of God" by A.W Pink, chapter 8: 'Free moral agency' is an expression of human invention and, as we have said before, to talk of the freedom of the natural man is to flatly repudiate his spiritual ruin. Nowhere does Scripture speak of the freedom or moral ability of the sinner, on the contrary, it insists on his moral and spiritual inability. How can the sinner be held responsible to receive Christ, and be damned for rejecting Him, when God FOREORDAINED him TO condemnation? Really, this question has been covered in what has been said under the other queries, but for the benefit of those who are exercised upon this point we give it a separate, though brief, examination. In considering the above difficulty the following points should be carefully weighed: In the first place, no sinner, while he is in this world, knows for certain, nor can he know, that he is a "vessel of wrath fitted to destruction". This belongs to the hidden counsels of God, to which he has not access. God's secret will is no business of his; God's revealed will (in the Word) is the standard of human responsibility. And God's revealed will is plain. Each sinner is among those whom God now "commandeth to repent" (Acts 17:30). Each sinner who hears the Gospel is "commanded" to believe (1 John 3:23). And all who do truly repent and believe are saved. Therefore, is every sinner responsible to repent and believe. In the second place, it is the duty of every sinner to search the Scriptures which "are able to make wise unto salvation" (2 Tim. 3:15). It is the sinner's "duty" because the Son of God has commanded him to search the Scriptures (John 5:39).

  • The Fear of the Lord
During the program today we will discuss the book, "The Two Fears - Tremble Before God Alone". The book was recently published by Cruciform Press. "Most Christians will agree that we ought to love our God. But what about fearing God? The Bible says that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10), yet a broad survey of modern evangelicalism reveals that the fear of God is hardly regarded as such anymore. Many Christians seem to wrongly assume that the gospel of grace trumps the fear of the Lord. However, it is only the God of the gospel that is truly worthy of our reverential fear. The purpose of this book is to equip Christians with a healthy view of fearing God and to illustrate how it reconciles with the gospel of God's grace to sinners". “A.W. Pink lamented that ‘the God of the twentieth century … commands the respect of no really thoughtful man … The God of many a present-day pulpit is an object of pity rather than awe-inspiring fear.' What Pink said of the 20th century rings true in the 21st century where downsized deities and consumer-friendly “Christs” are a dime a dozen. Chris Poblete has written an importantly countercultural book, moving us beyond a homeboy God we could fist-bump to a holy God we can worship. The Two Fears helps us recover a biblical fear of God and all the awe, repentance, and freedom from self-centered fears that go with it. An awesome resource!” (Dr. Thaddeus Williams) My guest on the program today is Chris Poblete. Christ serves at Reverence Bible Church in Mission Viejo, California, where he directs the Prayer Ministry and co-leads the Young Adult Ministry. He also serves as Executive Director at The Gospel for

  • The Christian in Romans 7
Refutes the Perfectionism of Wesley and his followers while encouraging Christians in their daily struggle to overcome sin. See the WCF, chapter 13, for more on sanctification, at http://www.swrb.com/newslett/actualNLs/WCF.htm ************************************ Our books may come to be seen where ourselves shall never be heard. These may preach where the author cannot, and (which is more) when he is not.' This prediction by one of the great Puritans has had many fulfillments. An ungodly Welsh clergyman, shopping at a fair in the eighteenth century, bought an article which happened to be wrapped in a page torn from an old Puritan folio. The reading of that one page led to his sound conversion. As Luther said, 'Satan hates the use of pens,' and never were pens more powerfully wielded in the cause of God than by the Puritan divines of the seventeenth century. Nor have their books outlived their usefulness. Although the original volumes are worn with age, the truths found in them are as fresh as the new formats in which they are now appearing. - Forward, Richard Sibbes, The Bruised Reed. • Repentance: What Saith the Scriptures? 2 of 2
I have been systematically working through reading the SWRB Puritan and Reformed CDs I purchased. I must say, there is nothing like them available anywhere. It is the most amazing collection of works I know of in one package to date... The Puritan & Reformed material presented on these CDs is exceptional. I am continually amazed at the depth and breadth of information in both collections, & the rarity of works that I now have at my fingertips. You have done an immeasurable service for the Kingdom of Christ in making these CDs available & every pastor and theologian should own them without question (they would be foolhardy to pass them by). - For Christ's Crown and Covenant, Dr. C. McMahon, A Puritan's Mind Ministries This collection of 62 CDs is a truly astounding accomplishment. Now, for the first time ever, ordinary Christians can have direct & near effortless access to the very cream of Puritan & Reformed, as well as Covenanter, literature. Buy these CDs while you can, and find out for yourself what the First & Second Reformations were really all about! You'll be truly amazed, and, by God's grace, will grow from being an ordinary Christian to being an extraordinary one. What they used to say of the Puritan John Flavel's preaching, can be said of these CDs: they are 'hissing hot'! - Dr. J.D. Moore, Cambridge, UK.
