  • 26 Daniel
Cyrus the Great was the king of Persia, which is modern Iran from 559-530 B.C. Daniel is now in the government of the Medes and the Persians who conquered the Babylonians in October of 539 B.C. Daniel begins this section of Scripture with stating the time frame of the third year of Cyrus king of Persia; referring to himself in the Babylonian name he was given Belteshazzar by Nebuchadnezzar. This would be 536 B.C. when Daniel received this prophecy. Cyrus is mentioned here because God used him as His servant. Cyrus is inserted here in verses 2-3 because he will be a future judgment against the gentile nations who worship pagan idols, and fits in with the Lord's judgment against such behavior. Isaiah 41:2-3 2Who hath raised up one from the east, whom he calleth in righteousness to his foot? he giveth nations before him, and maketh him rule over kings; he giveth them as the dust to his sword, as the driven stubble to his bow. 3He pursueth them, and passeth on safely, even by a way that he had not gone with his feet (ASV, 1901).

  • Work It Out
Message in the Be Joyful series through Philippians. Pastor Robert Rohlin takes up one of the most misunderstood commands in the New Testament: "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling" (Philippians 2:12). Paul says work OUT, not work FOR, and that one word makes all the difference. Writing under house arrest in Rome, 800 miles from Philippi, Paul commends a church whose obedience never depended on his being there. So who are we when the teacher steps out of the room? Joseph in Potiphar's house shows what obedience without an audience looks like. Heaven cannot be earned. Our best righteousness is "filthy rags" (Isaiah 64:6), as Martin Luther learned on his face in the monastery at Erfurt, and salvation runs in three tenses: penalty, power and presence. The Greek verb pictures working a mine you already own. A rich uncle leaves you a gold mine, and you can frame the deed and stay poor, or go dig out the gold. God got Israel out of Egypt in one night, but it took forty years to get Egypt out of Israel. Fear and trembling is not terror of losing your salvation. It is the careful reverence of a child who does not want to grieve a loving Father, pictured from forty feet up on a wobbling crane. If you have ever wondered whether this verse means you must earn heaven after all, or you are rich in Christ but living like a pauper, this message will settle the question and send you out to dig. Please note: this message covers verse 12. Pastor Rohlin plans to take up verse 13, God at work in us to will and to do, next week.

  • 073 A Disobedient and Gainsaying People (Romans 10:16-21)
After discussing the need to go and send preachers because faith comes by hearing the word of God, Paul now addresses the fact that all have heard and/or have access to the word all over the world and, yet, while Israel is the SOURCE and has supreme access, there is still only a remnant of believing Jews. Has always been that way and will be right up to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ! Also Reference: Isaiah 65:1, 1 Corinthians 2:14, Deuteronomy 6:8, Deuteronomy 11:18, Daniel 9:27, Isaiah 28:15, Acts 20:21, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, COMMUNION: 1 Corinthians 11: 28-31, Mark 14:22-26 MUSIC: Hymn # 360 (A) "There Is A Fountain" Hymn # 379 (A) "We Have An Anchor" Hymn # 489 (A) "I Surrender All" Hymn # 601 (C) "Leaning On The Everlasting Arms" https://bbfohio.com

  • To Whom Shall We Go?
John 6:60-71 records the day many of Jesus' disciples stopped following him. This sermon shows that the hard saying about eating his flesh and drinking his blood was a deliberate shock. Jesus pressed the picture of bread until it broke, so that hearers who wanted more loaves would see that he gives himself in death. The saying forced a decision. Many turned back, and Jesus asked the Twelve whether they would leave too. Peter answered, "Lord, to whom shall we go?" and confessed Jesus as the Holy One of God before he understood everything. Verses 64, 65 and 70 then show that the Father grants faith and the Son chooses first. Christ holds his people through dry seasons and doubts, and he will never cast out anyone who comes to him.

  • 072 Faith Cometh By Hearing (Romans 10:14-17)
We know what the "word of faith" is as we discussed in our previous study, but now we look at the question of "how" and "where" this word of faith is found and received, and our part in getting the word to the lost. Also Reference: Acts 1:8, 1 Corinthians 9:7-14, Matthew 7:13-14, Isaiah 53:1-12, Isaiah 53:1, Luke 16:19-31, 1 Thessalonians 2:13 MUSIC: Hymn # 479 (A) "I Am Resolved" Hymn # 361 (G) "When I See The Blood" Hymn # 437 (C) "Beulah Land" Hymn # 444 (E) "I've Got A Mansion" https://bbfohio.com

  • 071 The Word of Faith (Romans 10:5-13)
As we discuss what IS and is NOT the "word of faith", we discuss obtaining the righteousness of Christ and how that cannot be accomplished by subterranean or interstellar space travel (and how the modern tech and "transhumanist" movements are attempting to do just that!). What does it mean to "call on the name of the Lord"? Also Reference: 2 Corinthians 5:21, James 2:10, Isaiah 28:16, Proverbs 4:23, Acts 26:14-18, Acts 20:21, 2 Timothy 2:22 MUSIC: Hymn # 365 (D) "Are You Washed In The Blood?" • 3 John 3-4 • You Already Preached to Your Kids Today
3 John 3-4 — Your children can't see your soul. They can see your walk. A sermon on walking in truth and raising children who do. This family integrated church sermon from 3 John 3-4 asks the question behind every Christian parent's prayer: what report is getting back about how I walk? John had no greater joy than to hear that his children walk in truth, and the report came by the brethren who saw it. This verse-by-verse expository preaching through 3 John shows why knowing the truth is not the same as walking in it. Some of us know the truth in the pew and lose it in the parking lot. Everything the colt learned in the round pen stays in the pen when the gate opens. If you grew up in church, can quote John 3:16, and still wonder why the truth hasn't reached your feet, this message is for you. It will also challenge every father and mother who wants Christian parenting that works: your children read your walk before they hear your talk. The sermon also sets Gaius against Diotrophes, two men in the same church under the same preaching, with two different walks and two different reports. It ends with encouragement for the parent who is still praying for a child who hasn't come home. This sermon walks through 3 John 3-4, John 14:6, 1 John 1:6 and 2:6, 1 Corinthians 4:15, Proverbs 23:24, 27:11 and 10:1, and Isaiah 53:10, explaining: - How John knew Gaius's soul prospered: a soul nobody could see showed up in a walk everybody could see - Why knowing the truth is not the same as having the truth - Why the truth is a person (John 14:6), and what happens when the truth moves in - How to walk in truth: one step at a time, Monday through Saturday
