Reel Poppycock

Season 2, Ep. 11: Philadelphia (part 2 of 2)

Listen Later

In part 2 of 2 of Reel Poppycock's episode on Philadelphia, the social commentary and emotional weight of the film are delved into. Ed, KC, and Jared also share more personal experiences in this episode, while also getting into the meat of the film, and the fun of the podcast.

We welcome our first guest host in the studio & kick out all the whites on this 2 part episode on the film "Philadelphia." Joining us to lift our spirits is Jared Thompson: a jazz musician of much acclaim, and a founding member of the jazz quintet Premium Blend. Jared is also a composer who has done commissioned work for Connor Prairie, The Children's Museum, Indy Jazz Foundation, The Palladium, as well as local (Indianapolis) RnB and hip-hop artists. Today he joins in the studio us a cute lil goofball.

"Philadelphia" is a beautiful bummer of a flick, but also an important cultural touchstone taking place in the early 90s. This courtroom drama was released in 1993, and directed by Johnathan Demme. "Philadelphia" tells the story of Andrew Beckett, a lawyer fired from their law firm based upon bigotry; and his bigoted attorney Joe Miller, who dutifully defends his client in life & death.
