One of my non-negotiable rules that I started implementing into my life a couple of years ago is 'put the phone down when company is around'. If there's someone in the room with me, they become my focal point. My full attention is on them as I 'listen to listen', not 'listen to respond'. I communicate mindfully as I make sure the person feels seen and heard. The beauty of this practice is that it's so rare today that it becomes an impactful experience that tends to inspire others to be more present as well. They put their phones away as we co-create a beautiful human connection.
