Space Chats

Season 2, Episode 9 - Maria Laumark and Charles Sloboda-Bolton (Mary & Mietek)

Listen Later

Artistic Director, Adam Hemming, chats to Maria Laumark and Charles Sloboda-Bolton, creator of the show Mary & Mietek. We discuss love letters, our ancestral heritage and how it is reflected in our times, Brexit and its effects on personal life, and about providing accessibility in theatre, in advance of the run of Mary & Mietek at the Space (playing 13th - 17th September, including a BSL interpreted performance on the 14th, a livestream on the 15th and on demand access for two weeks after that).

“Only things I have to offer you for certain are; my love, my respect and what is perhaps most important, my friendship. This is a lot, but sometimes it is very little” – Mietek, 1945.

Ben and Alma are feeling the strain, separated by Brexit, borders and uncertainty. Can they find help in Ben’s grandparent’s love letters? Presented by Katla theatre, Mary and Mietek is a testament to the power of love to overcome and break down borders.
