Right between the end of World War 2 and the Cold War, there was a time of one nuclear power. It lasted just a hand full of years, and is almost unfathomable for us today. In Europe the Nazi’s had been defeated and the rebuilding of a continent was just beginning. We lived in a volatile miasma of our Soviet war time allies and an America with deep seated anti-communist sentiments. We saw what the future held and it was the bomb. There is a spy story that’s hard to avoid from this time, and may have caused the end of this brief interlude, the Rosenbergs.
