North American Outdoors

Season 4 - Episode 85 -- Know Your Range Commands

Listen Later

Each time you handle your firearm and ammunition, you immediately become your own range safety officer.  This means that you are responsible for your actions, your equipment, your safety, and the safety of all those around you.  It is extremely important to know what to look for before, during, and after a day at the shooting range.

You also need to know who and what a Range Safety Officer (RSO) is, the commands given, and how to respond to them.  Most ranges have RSOs on staff and present any time there is live fire happening at a range.  Commands are given throughout the day to rotate shooters, change targets, or identify issues.

By knowing these common range commands and how to react to them, will benefit not only you as the shooter, but everyone around you at the range.  These are universal commands and are of benefit to know what to expect anytime you are on the range.
