🎤 Gaz's Rapid Retro Review Returns
Gaz returns for one final appearance in Season 8 and gives his thoughts on USA 94.
Gaz admits that while he appreciates the tournament's historical importance, it has never been one of his personal favourite World Cups.
Gaz says:
"I know loads of people love USA 94 but I've always preferred France 98 and even parts of Italia 90."
He continues:
"The atmosphere was different because it was in America, the final wasn't great, and if we're being honest, most people remember the tournament for Baggio's penalty miss."
Gaz also argues that:
"There were some fantastic stories, but I don't think the football was consistently amazing throughout the tournament."
However, Gaz praises:
✅ Romário✅ Stoichkov✅ Bulgaria's run✅ Saudi Arabia's wonder goal✅ The incredible attendance figures
before concluding:
"Good tournament. Important tournament. Just not my favourite World Cup."
🔥 The Dange Rebuttal
Dangerous Dave responds by defending USA 94 passionately.
Dange argues that football fans sometimes judge tournaments purely on the quality of the final rather than the entire story.
He explains:
Bulgaria shocking Germany remains one of the greatest upsets ever.
Romania produced some of the most entertaining football of the decade.
Saudi Arabia created one of the most iconic goals in World Cup history.
Romário delivered a genuinely world-class tournament.
Roberto Baggio's journey became football folklore.
Dange also points out that:
"Without USA 94 there probably isn't an MLS, there isn't the same football growth in America and FIFA doesn't become the commercial giant it is today."
He adds:
"This tournament wasn't just about football. It was about expanding football globally."
And while he agrees the final itself wasn't a classic, he argues:
"The tournament gave us heroes, villains, heartbreak, chaos, controversy, upsets and unforgettable moments. That's what makes a great World Cup."
🏆 Final Verdict
Dangerous Dave ranks USA 94 as one of the most important World Cups ever staged.
Maybe not the greatest football.
Maybe not the greatest final.
But one of the greatest stories.
And as Season 8 comes to an end, Dangerous Dave thanks listeners for joining him on another incredible retro journey.
