In July 2021, Deric's son, Sebastian, took half a pill of what he thought was Percocet, unaware it was actually a counterfeit pill laced with a lethal dose of fentanyl . After the loss of his son, Deric began working to spread awareness to help break the stigma surrounding fentanyl deaths, and hopefully prevent more lives from being lost.
