Publisher's Summary:
No matter how many critics call him an artisan or how much money people are willing to pay for his handcrafted furniture, Will Garrett will always be the son of a drunk from Mill Town. Though he has admired Dr. Arabelle Avery ever since his teenage busboy days at the Merritt County Club, he has no aspirations where she is concerned. A boy from across the tracks doesn't go calling on a state senator's daughter. But he is stoic about all that. He has his work and the home he built with his own hands in the woods where he draws his strength and serenity.
At one time life was easy for Arabelle Avery. She was smart and pretty, with her sister-in-law and cousin as best friends. When her sister-in-law wrapped her car around a tree, Arabelle was devastated. The day her brother remarried was a hard day, and going to Will Garrett's arms for comfort was unexpected but easy. When she finds herself pregnant and hears, incorrectly, that Will is engaged, she flees to Switzerland to lick her wounds and have her baby. Desperate to do the best thing for her child, she allows her cousin to adopt him - a decision she immediately regrets. When a twist of fate reunites Arabelle with her child, she moves home to Merritt, where she is determined to keep her secret and raise her child in peace. But once Will gets a look at his son and guesses the truth, Arabelle's life spins out of control. Can they find the path to what's best for their son - and each other?

Secrets, secrets and more secrets.
Some secrets are never a good thing. In this book, Arabelle Avery has moved back home to be closer to family and try and keep her secrets secret. Arabelle has lost 2 extremely close friends in the last few years and 2 years prior, after watching her brother remarry (he had been married to one of her best friends) and finding herself in a lot of pain over the death of her best friend, she finds comfort one night in the arms of Will Garrett. Will has always loved Arabelle but never told her. Arabelle is a doctor and leaves the country only to discover herself pregnant with Will's child. After a miscommunication, she decides the best thing is to let her best friend, Sheridan, and her husband, adopt her baby. Fast forward 2 years and Sheridan and her husband are killed in a plane crash and Arabelle is reunited with her child and ready to keep the secrets surrounding Avery's birth and that Will is his father. Once Arabelle moves home and Will sees Avery, he realizes he is the father and is drawn into Arabelle's secrets.
Arabelle is a well educated and obviously smart woman, so I was rather frustrated with much of her thinking throughout this book because as a smart woman, I wanted her to realize that if she wanted to be happy and move forward, she needed to grieve for her friends death and recognize she might need help in order to move past the guilt she so obviously felt. In the end, she realizes that she can let her secrets go and tell the world that she is Avery's mom and that Will is his biological father. If you've ever lived in a small town like Merritt, you know it's very hard to keep your secrets. This book is definitely worth the read.
Good grief (literally)
I've read the entire series now and you should steer clear of Merritt, Alabama the mortality rate there must be through the roof. First book wife and best friend car crash.
