Success doesn't mean much if you're not happy with who you are. How can you foster personal growth, alongside career success? Can you overcome negative thoughts that keep you from becoming the person you want to be? On this episode, author of Real Estate Good Life, Bart Vickrey, shares how he's achieved business freedom and created a life he loves.
Three Things We Learned:
- Don't listen to your negative inner-voice Often, the voice telling us we aren't capable comes from within. Silence your negative thoughts and don't allow them to get the better of you. Most of the time, our realities exist because we tell ourselves stories to back them up. Stop this from happening by refusing to entertain negative thoughts about yourself and your abilities.
- Write in a journal regularly A lot of people have internalized the idea that they shouldn't voice their emotions. Journalling is a great outlet. Try to write in a journal every day, and don't limit yourself to any one subject. If you can't think of anything monumental, write about what happened in your day. Most of the time, it will lead to something more.
- Control what you can It's easy to fall into the trap of worrying. However, no good can come of worrying about things you can't control. Focus on the things you have the power to change, like your communication with the people in your life. Everything outside of your influence is beyond your control and there's no point agonizing over them.
Self-growth is crucial, but it can be difficult if you're not in touch with who you are as a person. Find ways to explore your psyche and motivations, and don't be shy to speak about them. Even if you're expressing yourself to yourself, in a journal, you're taking a step towards self-improvement.
