Amazon has acquired, and then shut down, competing companies to increase its market share. Amazon uses its unfair advantage to force Third Party Sellers to sell their products on Amazon for lower than they sell it elsewhere. Amazon's practices reduce sellers' incentives to sell their products on other sites and succumb to Amazon's high commission fees - sometimes as high as 40%. Competing online retails can't offer lower prices than Amazon due to the artificial pricing set by Amazon. This anticompetitive behavior affects consumers as Amazon has become the only option for many products, forcing the Washington DC Attorney General to pursue antitrust violations against Amazon.
