See The World Through Your Ears

Once again, it’s Christmas time, so for this episode Roxy and Johann get into the spirit of things, as they try to see the world through music at this special time of year. Expect the kind of Christmas songs you’d hear at the end of a very sad movie set in winter, as well as one classic banger you hear every month of December, from supermarkets to tropical resorts. On today’s episode we’re going on a local road trip around our beautiful part of the world here in Catalonia, to listen to some of the producers based in and around Barcelona, who are making ripples around the oceans with their visions of electronically made music.

This year Primavera Sound celebrates Primavera Weekender, a new winter edition of its mother festival in the seaside city of Benidorm, within a camping resort.We’ll listen to a selection of tracks from some of the artists on the line-up with special guests Ben Cardew (Line Noise/Sprung) and Mark Dix (Radio Flea/Sprung) joining Johann Wald in the driver's seat.

On this episode we celebrate a global block party, racking up the mileage through the ages of hip hop and other genres born out of the inner city life… the sounds of liberation and self-expression that sprout against all kinds of social adversity. We’ll refill the tank at pit stops in Kingston Jamaica, Viejo San Juan in Puerto Rico, the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, and if there’s time, we’ll hit the Punjabi Streets… wherever there’s a tight grip around the neck, there’s always a beat keeping the heart racing for survival.

When leaves go from green to yellow in slow decay and the colours of nature degrade towards a golden brown. On today´s episode, Johann Wald & Annika Hausen celebrate Modern Art by remembering some of the 20th century’s most influential movements as well as listening to some of the bands that have taken music to unsuspected levels of artistic expression, fit into the art-pop/rock category, formed while studying at art school, make music like a creative collective or are highly regarded by the interdisciplinary world of art.

On this episode we’ll shift into cruise mode, and drive along sonic highways in search of the perfect beat, the ideal melody, the basic rhythm...everything that makes listening to music great. On today’s episode we’ll be channelling the positive vibes emitting from some of Africa’s most notable musicians with our guest, Uncle Yems from the Voodoo Club Radio show on RPS-2.
