A bit of family history: Oral Roberts discovered this principle in the Bible and used it to encourage people to sow into his ministry. He built a world-wide evangelistic network, started ORU, Oral Roberts University, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and built a hospital where they did research to provide healing medicine while patients were being prayed for all the time.
My granny, Ouma Daisy Pelser, was healed from breast cancer after he prayed over her at the Wembley Stadium in Johannesburg. The cancer literally fell out and the festering wound healed up within 3 days. I saw it as a little child. Her testimony was on the front page of ‘Die Dagbreek’, the Afrikaans Sunday newspaper, in 1953.
I met Oral Roberts & his wife, Evelyn, and Richard Roberts who invited me to attend a recording of one of their TV programs in their studio. Billy Joe Dougherty became the Pastor of Victory Campus Church. I attended his Church Growth conference. I performed the John G Lake story in ORU auditorium to over 500 students and they gave me a standing ovation at the end.
As a family, we sent monthly financial seed faith to Oral Roberts for most of our lives until he passed away and received his monthly magazine. I donated my book ‘God’s Genius’ to ORU library and my video film, ‘Miracle Man’, is also in the video section of the library. I’ve met people who read my book and saw my video in the library.
Oral Roberts ministered to more than 3 million people around the globe in his life time. Kenneth Copeland was his private pilot that flew him from place to place and carried his jacket & coat until he started his own ministry.
Oral had a little reminder on his desk in his office reading, ‘make no small plans here’. He constantly asked people to sow seeds of financial support into his ministry and to expect a harvest from God based on the seed faith principle. He prayed over every seed faith envelope and replied to every letter! He had offices in many nations where they would do the same. He wrote one letter to all, every month, that simply had a change of name and address at the top. I knew his representative in Johannesburg well. He showed me their operation.
His HQ and ORU were situated on a dry river bed at 777 Lewis Drive, Tulsa. He went to pray there and had a vision of a university in that place. When he was asked how he raised multiple millions for his work over the years he replied: ‘I am always a desperate man!’
Oral was a Navajo Indian. I went to the Navajo Indian village, Djalagee, where they display the life style of the Navaho’s to tourists. I bought a Navajo Indian ring when I lost my golden ring on a tour. I still wear it today. There is a Navajo Indian Shop in Tulsa where I bought my ring.
