Today’s Scripture:
1 Chronicles 16:11 KJV
Seek the LORD and his strength, Seek his face continually.
Have you ever lost something important? Have you ever lost an important relationship? Have you ever lost money that you needed for something very important? The feeling you get in your gut is one of weakness. It almost feels like there's no hope of ever restoring that relationship, getting that money back, or even replacing what you lost.
The word seeks in our text means to "search," to "look for," "search out," " pursue," "petitioned," or "straining”'. Now, all these words indicate that it will take strength to seek the Lord because when we look for something, it takes energy; when we pursue something, it takes strength, it takes grit, and fight.
In our text, the writer says to seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continuously. Twice, he uses the same word, "seek," which means the same thing in both instances: petition the Lord, search out the Lord, look for the Lord. Is the Lord lost? Does he need to be found? Why must we seek him?
We seek the Lord because, without him, we are lost. So seeking the Lord is not because he's lost; it is because we are lost without him.
The essential nature of seeking God can be heard echoed in Isaiah; he said, “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:" (Isaiah 55:6 KJV )
That stands to reason that there's a time when the Lord will not be found, and there's a time when he will not be near. That's a dreadful reality. It speaks to the pivotal nature of us seeking the Lord now while he may be found.
We are lost without him; if we don't seek the Lord, we remain lost and destined to fail. You can be found in seeking the Lord. According to Hebrews 11:6, God rewards us for seeking him; he rewards those who earnestly seek him. We talked about it: it will require our earnest pursuit of God to be found in God.
