Da Eun's short film, Nightlight, was the ultimate collaboration among the hosts and past guests of bamboo & glass (RJ Siu, Ami Park, and Serena Kim). It also features Da Eun's USC colleagues and a new star, Sophia's 13 year old sister Ivanna Sun! We're taking you behind the scenes of the creative process through the eyes of a first-time child actress, who shares her wisdom about stepping up to exciting challenges and expanding her empathy through acting.
Da Eun shares the technical challenges she took on to film in the dark, what collaborations she wants to continue pursuing, and how shows like This is Us helped her to tap into the psyche of a first time parent who tries to communicate with a child striving for independence.
You'll also get to hear samples from Sophia and Da Eun's creative process of composing Nightlight's score.
Nightlight logline
A young girl can't wait to grow up, but she must confront her biggest fear: the dark.
Nightlight synopsis
Lily, a 10 year old girl, is in a hurry to grow up. She doesn't want storytimes anymore, and she's embarrassed that her mom goes around telling people she still sleeps with a nightlight. She pushes her mom away one night, insisting that she can handle herself. But behind closed doors, Lily freely takes comfort in her nightlight... until a frightening world of darkness threatens to rip her away from everything she's loved, including her mom.
About Ivanna
Ivanna is a 7th grader who loves baking, crocheting, creating science experiments, building KiwiCo engineering projects, playing basketball with friends, thinking about dogs, and scrolling through Pinterest to collect the best Avatar the Last Airbender memes. She also enjoys watching She-ra, The Dragon Prince, and Voltron. She hopes to one day meet Mark Rober, whose videos have inspired her love for math and science.
Nightlight is the first film she acted in, and she is grateful for the opportunity to work with such a fun and talented team!
