Right in the heat of battle

Became fraught with fear and scattered

I caught the disease I'm baffled

Always been sincere, unrattled

Got tired of walking this tightrope

With mild discomfort in my throat

Fired at shadows in my soul

Mad by design I'd lost hope

I'd been on a mission that I couldn't win

Been decomissioned, I was wearing so thin

Been on a shipwreck and I couldn't swim

Been holding a missile and hearing it tick

As time makes haste

Caught in its teeth I age
