Many of us have the ease and luxury of being offered a 401(k), 403(b), or some other type of investment account through our employer. The self-employed among us, though, have to make investing a priority in their life without a corporation making it easy to defer some of their income to the future. This is where this episode is useful: among those who have no other employer-sponsored options in which to invest and those who bring home self-employed (or 1099) income instead of a W-2. Some of these options work for all people, but some are only for the self-employed among us.
