Over 25% of Americans are enrolled in health plans underwritten by their employers, more than any other segment of healthcare in 2021 and 2022. More employers are underwriting the medical risks of their employees but are abdicating their responsibilities beyond that by outsourcing services to health plans. Despite being in the driver’s seat, self-insured employers are not addressing the underlying health and healthcare needs of their employees.
